GREENVILLE – The Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks volleyball team traveled to Greenville for a four-team high school volleyball scrimmage with Bellefontaine, Brookville, and Greenville.
The Lady Hawks take the court for the new season under first-year head coach Taylor Rawlings.
“Everything is going great so far,” Rawlings said following the scrimmage. “I have had a lot of girls come in, put work in over the summer, and that is always good to see because you don’t know how that is going to be with a new coach coming in. These girls have been nothing but great for me.”
Coach Rawlings is a graduate of Adena High School and of Ohio Christian University. Rawlings has been coaching volleyball at various levels since 2017. She was a middle school volleyball coach at Adena from 2017 to 2019, a JV volleyball coach at Westfall, and coached club volleyball for Southern Ohio Volleyball. She has served as the Tri-Village Lady Patriots’ head varsity volleyball coach for the past two seasons.
As a high school player, Coach Rawlings played at Adena High School under legendary Ohio coach Laura Smith. Coach Rawlings’ high school teams finished as District Runner-Up, two Regional Runner-Ups, and a Final Four.
Coach Rawlings remains in the WOAC while moving to the Lady Hawks program and is pleased with the support she is receiving from her new volleyball program and four seniors.
“Having four seniors, I feel it goes either one of two ways,” she stated. “They either respect and ask their questions, or they go the opposite way, but these girls, those four seniors, have been nothing but great and helpful with everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to walk into.”
The Lady Blackhawks open the Greenville Federal Invitation with a match against the Greenville Lady Wave on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
“We have some things to do, to work on, but I think if we bring our game, we’ll be just fine,” Coach Rawlings said. “We have definitely grown as a team, getting better and communicating and trusting our teammates, because that is a big thing. With a new coach coming in they have done a great job of leaning on me to ask questions and then helping each other through things.”
