The Wayne Theatre in downtown Greenville had its official Grand opening this afternoon. With a big crowd coming to support the grand opening and ribbon cutting, it is clear the community is excited about the theatre.
“I think it’s a really important project for Greenville and for Darke County,” Rachel Neal, President of Darke County Chamber of Commerce, said. “Greenville is already a destination, and being able to have a special place to come, a beautiful location, is really, really exciting.”
The Jones Family now owns the theatre. Mike Jones was excited to share what the process of opening the theatre was like.
“When we got this, I came in, and my scooter, the front wheel fell in the floor, and I thought ‘that might be a little bit of a problem,’ and then my back two wheels fell in too,” Jones said.
“It’s been a labor of love; we wanted the community to have the theatre. We wanted to make sure everything was top-of-the-line and top quality. The better we do, the better the other businesses uptown do.”
Greenville Mayor Steve Willman was also in attendance and was excited about the addition of the theatre to the community. He came with a surprise for the Jones family.
“We’ve made up a sign,” Mayor Willman said. “This block downtown is going to be not just West Fifth, it’s going to be Mike and Sherri Jones Way.”
Mike and Sherri Jones Way will be up soon, and it is a way to not only congratulate the Jones family for their success but also to thank them for what they have done for the community.
After thanks were given to everyone involved in making this possible, the ribbon was cut, and the Wayne Theatre was officially opened!
The Wayne Theatre’s grand opening continues tonight with their showing of “The Marvels.” So grab your tickets and favorite movie snack and join in on the excitement.
