The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss the County Demolition and Site Revitalization Program and the Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

The board approved Resolution (R-389-2023). This authorized a third amendment to the Darke County Demolition and Site Revitalization Program. This added 11 properties to the project: 209 N. Miami Street in Bradford, 850 Braffetsville-North Road, 128 W. Union Street in Hollansburg, 200 N. Main Street in Hollansburg, 1298 US Route 36, 4096 Richmond-Palestine Road, 935 Peters Road, 1132 Verona-Pitsburg Road, 4857 Delisle-Fourman Road, 7189 Delisle-Fourman Road, and 12862 US Route 127.

“We did 20 sites in the first round, then the Hollansburg store, so with these 11, there will be 32 total sites,” Commissioner Larry Holmes said.

“I know there are a couple of these properties that could have asbestos or lead, so we are going to go in and assess those properties,” Commissioner Matt Aultman said.

The board then heard from Mindy Saylor, EMA/LEPC Director, about contractor quotes for the Hazard Mitigation Plan. They request the approval of the Burton Planning Services quote of $22,390. This project will be funded 100% through the BRIC Grant.

“Currently, our hazard mitigation plan is only for natural hazards,” Saylor said. “It’s addressing things we can do to lessen damage storms, tornados, winter storms, whatnot. Our plan is to switch it to an all-hazard plan. So, we would then address cyber, security, and site security and expand this plan.”
