CELINA – The McCoys guitarist and singer Rick Derringer, who was born in Celina on Aug. 5, 1947, with ties to Union City, has died at the age of 77.
Derringer started his career at 17 with his band The McCoys recorded popular songs like “Hang On Sloopy”, “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo”, and won a Grammy Award for producing “Weird Al” Yankovic’s debut album.
