PIQUA – The Piqua Police Department responded to a report of a victim wounded by gunfire in the 800 block of Fisk Street at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday morning.
The 18-year-old male victim suffered a minor leg wound and refused medical treatment on the scene. One vehicle was struck with a round in the incident.
A 16-year-old male and 18-year-old male fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Piqua Police officers, with support from other jurisdictions, searched for the subjects in the area where they were last seen.
They located the suspects at the Shell gas station at 600 South Street. Officers evacuated civilian bystanders from the store and took the two suspects into custody.
The 16-year-old suspect was transported to West Central Juvenile Detention Center, where he is facing three counts of felonious assault. The 18-year-old has not been charged at this time.
Piqua Police Deputy Chief Marty Grove said that the victim and suspect were known to each other prior to the incident and that officers recovered a handgun from the gas station restroom.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Troy Police Department provided mutual aid on the scene.
