PIQUA – The City of Piqua is proud to announce that Doug Stewart and Dustin Lacy have been appointed as assistant chiefs of the Piqua Fire Department.
The City of Piqua Civil Service Commission confirmed the appointments for Doug Stewart and Dustin Lacy at its meeting on Wednesday, December 11. Piqua City Manager Paul Oberdorfer swore in Assistant Chief Stewart and Assistant Chief Lacy on January 14.
“I’m honored and blessed to be given this opportunity to continue to serve the fine City of Piqua,” Assistant Chief Doug Stewart said.
Assistant Chief Stewart has 18 years of experience in firefighting and emergency medical services, all of which have been with the City of Piqua. He has served as Captain for the last four years. He resides with his family in Troy, Ohio.
“I’m excited to be a part of the leadership of this department,” said Assistant Chief Dustin Lacy. “I’m looking forward to having a hand in the continual progress of the department and the professional level of service that we provide and that citizens expect.”
Assistant Chief Lacy, who is originally from Beavercreek, now lives in the Piqua area with his wife, Sara, and their two sons. Lacy started his career with the Miami Valley Fire District and Washington Township, Centerville, but he has been with the City of Piqua for the last 12 years.
“The promotional process for these positions requires significant preparation and stamina from the candidates,” City of Piqua Human Resources Director Catherine Bogan said. “And these gentlemen have certainly demonstrated that they are ready to lead the charge in protecting the community.”
The process of choosing a new fire assistant chief is governed by rules and regulations established by the Civil Service Commission and is administered by the human resources director.
The promotional process included both a written test and an assessment center administered by the Ohio Chief’s Association. Candidates were required to achieve 70% on the written test in order to move on to the assessment testing center. Final weighted scores determined the candidates’ placement on the Eligibility List for promotion as certified by the Civil Service Commission.
