DAYTON — A Miami Valley League battle between Greenville and Stebbins came down to the smallest of margins, and ultimately one extra three-pointer proved the difference as the host Indians escaped with a 68-65 overtime win.

The tightly contested game was as even as the final score suggested. Both teams knocked down 19 two-point field goals, and each converted 18 free throws, but Stebbins’ four made 3-pointers edged Greenville’s three from beyond the arc, providing just enough separation in the extra period.

Stebbins took control early, opening the game with a 13-8 first-quarter advantage before the Green Wave responded in the second. Greenville outscored the Indians 21-17 in the period behind seven Isaac Kerg points and a pair of Michael McMahon 3-pointers, trimming the deficit to one and sending the teams into halftime with Stebbins clinging to a 30-29 lead.

The Indians regained momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Greenville 17-13 to build a 47-42 cushion heading into the final eight minutes.

Greenville refused to go quietly, storming back with a 16-11 fourth quarter to erase the deficit and force overtime at 58-58.

In the extra session, Stebbins capitalized just enough, outscoring the Wave 10-7 to secure the conference victory.

Stebbins’ 5-foot-11 senior guard Adrien Carter led all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Greenville was paced by Johnny Barr and Isaac Kerg, who finished with 16 points apiece in the hard-fought road loss.
