GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave struggled to score in the first half in dropping a home conference game to the Stebbins Lady Indians 53-37 in Saturday varsity basketball play.

“I’m not going to take anything away from Stebbins, but we had about any look we wanted in that first half,” said Greenville coach Rachael Kerns. “We got a lot of great looks; we just did not do a very good job of executing and finishing the play.”

A lone Avery Baumann 3-pointer was all the Lady Wave could get on the scoreboard in the opening quarter while the visitors were putting up 14 points to take a double-digit 14-3 lead after one period of action.

The second quarter play was not much kinder to Greenville, with the Lady Indians taking the period by another double-digit score, 16-6, earning a 30-9 lead to the break.

“We had great looks,” Kerns stated. “It’s the time of year we have to start making them. To win a good game, you have to make some of those shots, which is the part we must overcome. We have to be a better offensive team.”

The Lady Wave battled back to win the second half 28-23, taking period No. 3 15-13, led by eight Megan Lind points, and took advantage of nine Avery Baumann fourth-quarter points, outscoring the Lady Indians 13-10 in the final period.

“Avery Baumann did a good job today,” said Coach Kerns. “She was able to score. She did a good job getting us into our offense. In the second half, Megan Lind and Megan Loudy played the way we needed them to, which is why we won the second half. If we did that for four quarters, we could win the game, but we’ll continue to get better. We’ll work on those little things and see what we can put together.”

Aubrey Fritz and Alianna Davis led Stebbins and all scorers with 21 points each. Avery Baumann paced the Lady Wave with 16 points.
