SIDNEY – The Greenville Green Wave could not overcome a slow start Friday night, dropping a 68-55 Miami Valley League road contest to the host Sidney Yellow Jackets.

Sidney captured two quarters and used a decisive 23-7 opening period to set the tone, a margin that ultimately proved too much for Greenville to erase despite winning the second and fourth quarters.

The Green Wave responded in the second period, outscoring the Jackets 20-11 behind a strong scoring burst from Michael McMahon, who poured in 10 points including a pair of three-pointers. Johnny Barr added five points with a triple of his own, while David Conway contributed three points and Landon Noble added a bucket to trim the deficit to 34-27 at the halftime break.

Sidney regrouped coming out of the locker room and seized control in the third quarter, outpacing Greenville 20-12 to stretch the advantage to 54-39 heading into the final eight minutes.

Greenville edged the Yellow Jackets 16-14 in the fourth quarter, but the late push was not enough to overcome the early deficit as Sidney secured the 13-point conference victory.

Barr and Isaac Kerg led the Green Wave in scoring with 16 points each, while Sidney junior Dayden Scott matched that total to pace the Yellow Jackets.

At the free-throw line, Sidney converted 11 of 16 attempts (68.7 percent), compared to Greenville’s 7-for-14 showing (50 percent).

With the win, Sidney improves to 5-16 overall and 4-13 in MVL play. Greenville falls to 4-18 on the season and 3-15 in conference action.
