Sheriff Duchak announces deputy promotions

MIAMI COUNTY – Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak is honored to announce the following deputy sheriff promotions that became effective over the past few months.

After competitive testing, Deputy Jeff Hodges was promoted to patrol sergeant, where he will be second in charge of one of the day watch shifts. Sergeant Hodges is an 18-year law enforcement veteran, having previously served on the Versailles police department prior to being hired at the sheriff’s office in 2021. Sergeant Hodges has served as a field training officer (F.T.O.) and is currently one of the coordinators of the F.T.O. program. Deputy Hodges also serves on the honor guard and the special response team and is the coordinator for Project Lifesaver.

After competitive testing, Deputy Steve Hickey was promoted to patrol sergeant, where he will be second in charge of one of the night watch shifts. Sergeant Hickey is a 17-year law enforcement veteran, having spent over 15 years with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Hickey has been a field training officer and currently serves on the special response team. Sergeant Hickey has served the past 12 years as a general assignment detective.

After competitive testing, Deputy Elizabeth McGuire was promoted to patrol sergeant, where she will be second in charge of one of the night watch shifts. Sergeant McGuire is a 9-year veteran of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant McGuire also serves on the Project Lifesaver team and is one of the founders of the sheriff’s office safety town program and is also one of our hostage negotiators. Sergeant McGuire has served the past five years as the school resource officer for Bethel Schools.

Sergeant Rob Morando was promoted to patrol lieutenant, where he will oversee one of the night shifts. Lieutenant Morando is a 21-year veteran of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and also previously served at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Lieutenant Morando also served as a school resource officer for Milton-Union & Bethel schools. Lieutenant Morando currently serves on the special response team and presents active shooter training to businesses, government, and other organizations throughout the county.

Sergeant Roger Davidson was promoted to patrol lieutenant, where he will oversee one of the night shifts. Lieutenant Davidson is a 24-year veteran of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and previously served with the West Milton police department. Lieutenant Davidson is also one of the coordinators of our F.T.O. program. Lieutenant Davidson also served as a school resource officer for Miami East schools and is one of the founders of the sheriff’s office safety town program. He has also served on the special response team. Lieutenant Davidson also developed the curriculum for a crime scene investigation course for teens in the summer.

Sergeants Hodges, Hickey, and McGuire, along with Lieutenants Morando and Davidson, have distinguished themselves as hard-working, competent deputies who have served with commitment and dedication. The promotions are well deserved, and I am confident that they will both excel in their new duties.
