LANCASTER – It was a gloomy Sunday in Fairfield County, Ohio, in more than one way for the American Legion Post #140’s Greenville Thunder baseball team. This team has had a great season overall, a few setbacks, but many triumphs – and it almost goes without saying, one of the hottest baseball seasons the team has ever experienced.
In yesterday’s quarterfinal match-up, Greenville Thunder #140 was in the lead in the 4th inning, with a score of 2 – 1 over Yeager-Benson Post #199. In the 5th inning, Yeager-Benson #199 poured on the heat (no pun intended), scoring 10 runs. Greenville #140 was not able to overcome that inning and Yeager-Benson #199 took the quarterfinal game with a final score of 13-3.
Coach Chad Henry said he was impressed with the whole team and congratulated the senior players of Greenville #140 for another 4th place finish, over all of the American Legion teams in the State of Ohio.
All of the players from Greenville Thunder, Post #140 would like to express their deep appreciation to all of their families, loyal fans who attended their games and those rooting for them from home, as well as their sponsors for this year’s team.
As the boys move on, some going back to high school and others onto college, we wish them the best in their future.
As for this journalist, I will also be moving on… who knows, you might be seeing some interesting photo stories from my desk, on a few sports from a little D-1 school a few hours South of here.
