ROSSBURG – Rossburg Fire Chief Rob Widener estimates approximately 800 people attended the 68th annual Rossburg Fire Association’s Ice Cream Social this past Saturday.
“It was another very successful year,” Chief Widener stated.
The family-oriented event did attract a crowd as usual, even though there was nothing new this year.
Featured as usual were the barbecue chicken dinner, homemade ice cream, as well as some other food items. Also featured were children’s games, which included a kiddie tractor pull and a Bouncy House.
Other highlights were bingo, a live auction, a silent auction, Queen of Hearts, the famous pie auction with auctioneer Bill Roll doing his usual thing and a 50-50 drawing.
“There were 27 pies auctioned off,” Chief Widener noted. “An apple crumb pie went for $350.”
CareFlight was unfortunately unable to make a landing at this year’s event.
“But the firefighters did a mock extrication for the people to see how the tools and some procedures are done for this,” said the Chief.
Honored at the event were firefighters and board members for all their work over the last several weeks on the station generator project and replacement of approximately 53 yards of cement behind the firehouse. Also recognized were several companies and individuals who have donated services and/or materials for the project.
There are 18 firefighters on the Rossburg squad and most were on hand to make the event successful.
“I want to thank everyone who helped put this on and or donated for the prizes and auction items,” Chief Widener added. “Also, a huge thank-you to everyone who came out to support this great event.”
“We have a great community that helps us out at all of our fundraisers. We really appreciate the continued support we receive at all of our functions. It’s great to be a part of such a supportive community,“ he concluded.
