SIDNEY – The Greenville Lady Wave brought the curtain down on the 2026 Miami Valley League varsity softball season in perfect fashion.
Sophomore Ella Oswalt pitched a perfect game and added an immaculate sixth inning as Greenville defeated the Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets 7-0 to finish MVL play unbeaten at 18-0 and claim the outright league championship.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Awesome to get league. Gave up nine total runs and scored over 200. Ella gave up three total runs.”
Greenville dominated league play from start to finish, scoring 204 runs while allowing only nine over 18 MVL games. That gave the Lady Wave an average league score of 11.33 runs per game while holding opponents to one-half run per contest. Greenville also left base early the equivalent of four full games while winning the league title.
Oswalt was untouchable in the circle, retiring all 21 Sidney batters she faced. She struck out 17, with no Lady Yellow Jacket reaching base, while the Lady Wave defense played error-free behind her.
“Ella 21 up and 21 down,” Newland said. “K’d 17 and was lights out. Perfect game again.”
Oswalt struck out the side in the second, fifth and sixth innings, and recorded two strikeouts in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings. Her sixth inning was immaculate, as she struck out the side on nine pitches.
“Fun day to get moving on the bus early and head over to finish the league off unbeaten,” said Newland.
Greenville broke through in the top of the second inning. Freshman Hallee Fourman legged out an infield single to shortstop, and senior Kendall Cromwell followed with a line-drive home run over the left-field fence, the first home run of her career, giving the Lady Wave a 2-0 lead.
“Kendall lined it over the left field fence by 30 feet to get us started,” Newland said. “First ever.”
The Lady Wave added three runs in the sixth. Lily Brubaker singled to left, Rielynn Davidson reached on a bunt single that Sidney played into an error, scoring Brubaker. Cromwell then reached on an error to score Davidson, and Kara Blumenstock grounded out to shortstop to bring home another run for a 5-0 Greenville lead.
Greenville tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Riley Thomas reached on a Sidney error at shortstop, and Rylie Pfledderer followed with a line-drive RBI double to left. Cromwell lifted a fly ball to left that was played into an error, allowing Pfledderer to score the Lady Wave’s seventh run.
Oswalt closed the day by inducing a lineout from Dillon to seal the perfect game, the conference win and Greenville’s undefeated MVL season.
Riley Dillon started for Sidney and went the distance, allowing 11 hits and seven runs, two earned, while striking out four and walking one.
Greenville collected 11 hits in the win. Oswalt and Leah Force each had two hits while batting back-to-back in the lineup. Cromwell drove in two runs from the No. 8 spot and finished 1-for-4 with her first career home run.
The Lady Wave played error-free ball in the field.
