CENTERVILLE – Greenville sophomore Ella Oswalt turned in a dominant all-around performance Saturday, powering the Lady Wave to an impressive 8-0 shutout win over perennial powerhouse Lebanon.
Oswalt was outstanding in the circle and at the plate, tossing a complete-game shutout while going 4-for-4 offensively, including a solo home run to left field to lead off the fourth inning.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball – great team win,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Big day for team and program.”
Greenville wasted no time taking control, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Leah Force sparked the rally with a leadoff double to center, and Oswalt followed with an RBI single to put the Lady Wave on the board. After Jordyn McMullen ripped a two-out double to left, Rielynn Davidson singled to center to bring home McMullen and give Greenville an early 3-0 advantage.
The Lady Wave added to their lead in the second inning, plating three more runs. Lizzie Shaffer delivered an RBI single, and Kendall Cromwell followed with a two-run blast to push Greenville in front 6-0.
“Came out of the gates hot,” Newland said. “We played great defense and Ella was lights out. She was ready to go today.”
Oswalt kept the momentum rolling in the fourth, crushing a solo home run to left field to extend the Greenville lead to 7-0.
The Lady Wave capped the scoring in the sixth inning. Force and Oswalt opened the frame with back-to-back singles, and a Lebanon error helped bring home Greenville’s final run of the day.
Oswalt was in complete command in the circle, shutting out one of the area’s top programs while Greenville’s defense backed her with a clean, steady effort behind her.
At the plate, Greenville piled up 15 hits in the win. Oswalt led the charge with four hits, Shaffer added three hits, while Kara Blumenstock, Davidson, and Force each added two hits.
“Fun day at Centerville and move to 9-1 on the year,” said Coach Newland. “Big win and great atmosphere.”
Lebanon’s pitching staff allowed 16 hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out none and walking one.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader against Centerville was rained out and will be rescheduled for a later date.
