PITSBURG – Eight teams braved warm but windy conditions Thursday as Franklin Monroe hosted its annual invitational, featuring a strong mix of WOAC programs and non-conference competition.
When the dust settled, it was Arcanum’s boys and Franklin Monroe’s girls who emerged on top in a meet filled with early-season momentum and standout performances.
The host Jets’ girls team delivered a strong showing to secure first place, narrowly edging Arcanum in a tightly contested race. Leading the way for Franklin Monroe was Sydney Baker, who turned in an exceptional night with three individual victories in the pole vault, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash.
On the boys side, Franklin Monroe added one of the night’s most exciting moments despite finishing third overall. The Jets’ 4×100 relay team broke a school record that had stood since 1979, posting a time of 45.23.
Arcanum’s boys continued their strong start to the season, capturing their second team title in as many meets. The Trojans showcased depth across multiple events, once again proving to be a balanced and competitive squad.
Arcanum’s girls also impressed, finishing a close second after leading much of the meet before being narrowly overtaken late.
“It’s nice to have so many good athletes and great kids to work with,” Arcanum coach Jeff Rademacher said. “They’re great competitors. The kids just love to run, compete, and support each other. We have high expectations for the rest of the season and are still figuring out where to put everyone.”
Tri-Village continued to show early-season strength as well, finishing second in the boys standings after scoring consistently across events in its first two meets.
Participating teams included Arcanum, Bradford, Franklin Monroe, Miami Valley School, Mississinawa Valley, Northeastern, Tri-County North, and Tri-Village.
