GREENVILLE – The No. 8 state ranked DII Lady Wave defeated the state’s No. 2 D-IV Minster Lady Wildcats 5-2 in non-conference softball action Monday night at Stebbins Field.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Huge atmosphere at the stadium today. Two great teams playing at it – two top 10 teams. It’s fun playing Minster and it’s a good ball club. Rob does a great job.”

Alaina Baugh drilled a one-out second-inning double setting up the Lady Wave first run of the game with Addie Burke collecting a RBI double plating pinch runner Ella McLear giving Greenville an early 1-0 lead with one-inning in the book.
Minster knocked a game tying home run in the top of the third for a 1-1 score with the Lady Wave taking the lead back in the bottom of the inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off the bat of Kylar Arnett to give Greenville a 2-1 lead after three complete.

The Lady Wave plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth all coming with two outs after hitting into a double play with Kylie Hamm knocking in a run and Mahayla Cook crushing a line drive two-run homer over the center field fence to give the Lady Wave a 5-1 advantage.

“Two good teams and bottom line it’s a 2-1 game bottom of the third, we get out of an inning go to the fourth, we hit into that weird double play,” Newland stated. “Senior, Hamm steps up, base hit to score the third run, flairs one into right – base hit. Next batter, Cook hits it out. Right there all with two out so Hamm steps up, flairs a hit, next batter, Cook hits it out. That’s three runs right with two outs passing the bats. That’s the game winning RBI right there it ends up.”

Minster collected its second home run of the night in the top of the sixth but went quietly in the seventh to give the Lady Wave their 20th win of the season and give the LWSB program 20 or more wins in the past 20 consecutive seasons.
“Good game,” said Coach Newland. “We hit the ball really square today, they make a lot of good plays and bottom line – Lady Wave wins and moving on.”

Greenville sophomore Zoey Burns went the distance for the Lady Wave giving up two-earned runs on six-hits, no walks while striking out five.
Burns went 2-3 at the plate and Cook was 1-3 including her third homerun in her last two games with 2-RBIs and a run scored. Burke 1-3, 1-RBI; Kylie Hamm 1-3 , 1-RBI; Skylar Fletcher 1-2, 1-walk, 1-run; Alaina Baughn 1-2; Kylar Arnett 1-RBI; Ashlyn Zimmer 1-walk; Ella McLear 2-runs; Taylor Fletcher 1-run.
