UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley-MVCTC FFA Chapter had the 56th Annual Fall Fair on Thursday, October 2.
There were 1,200 BBQ chicken and ham dinners sold to the community. As soon as the sun rose on October 2, Mrs. Hartzell’s advanced Ag class of senior and junior members was out cooking chicken.
As the day continued, members prepared the rest of the meal. This consisted of cooking potatoes, getting the rolls and applesauce ready, and cutting the pie. Once everything was done, we sent 75% of our supply out to the drive-thru line. The other 25% went to the cafeteria for those who wanted to dine in.
The members had to make sure there was always enough supply in the drive-thru line.
Members served around 250 vehicles from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Meanwhile, we had our exhibits set up in the Jackson Gym for community members to check out what the FFA members have grown, baked, canned, or created.
Our top exhibitors were McKinley Stachler with 190 points, Maia Wisner with 80 points, and Cassidy Seubert with 54 points. The following members were the top exhibitors in their respective categories: Hay – Michael Byram, Eggs – Brennan Gower, Fruit – McKinley Stachler, Shop – Levi Severance, Flowers – Allyson Waymire, Canned Goods – Racheal Philiposian, Vegetables – McKinley Stachler, Grain – McKinley Stachler, Baked Goods – Peyton Wolfe.
In addition to this, we had a scarecrow contest for teachers to participate in. The teachers and their students decorated their scarecrows. The winning scarecrow came from Mrs. Hummel’s 3rd-grade class. The class created a scarecrow named “Sally Stalks”. Within the school and community, there was a lot of involvement.
