PHONETON, Ohio – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating a reckless driving incident involving a Bethel Local Schools bus carrying five children, reported on September 9, near US 40 and South SR 202. Multiple 911 calls reported the bus swerving across lanes and partially off the roadway, prompting a swift response from deputies.
A deputy arrived to find the bus stopped by a concerned citizen. The driver exhibited signs of impairment, including unsteadiness and constricted pupils, leading to a voluntary blood draw at Huber ER. The sample is pending lab results to determine if OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) charges apply. The children were unharmed and transferred to another bus.
The case remains under investigation, with charges pending lab confirmation. MCSO appreciates the community’s quick action in reporting the matter.
