GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave defeated the visiting Piqua Lady Indians 3-1 in MVL Tuesday night volleyball action by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-13, and 25-14.
“I feel like we keep continuing to get better and better,” team captain Kindyl Pelts said of the remainder of the season. “I think we will definitely come back with lots of energy and excitement.”
The teams played to 15-15 and 19-19 first-set ties before the Lady Wave took control, outscoring the Lady Indians 6-2 to close out the opening set with a 25-21 win.
Greenville jumped out to a 6-1 second-set lead only to have Piqua step up play and go on to a 25-22 win over the home-standing Lady Wave and knot the score at a game apiece.
The Lady Wave found its stride in set No. 3, grabbing an early 10-5 advantage and scoring five unanswered points to earn its first double-digit lead of the night, 15-5 on its way to a 25-13 third set win and lead 2-1.
Senior Kindyl Peltz, owner of the Lady Wave career service aces record, draws confidence from the record when going to the line, proving each night out that she is not a one-dimensional player.
“When I am serving, I have lots of confidence in myself,” Peltz stated. “I know that I couldn’t have done it without Coach Jim Hardesty, and I am always counting on him on the sideline for those calls, and that really helps me.”
“Kindyl is not too far off from breaking the assist record here, too,” said Greenville assistant coach Jim Hardesty, and that should be somewhere towards the end of the season. She should break that, too.”
“Kindyl has done a heck of a job with what we are trying to get accomplished here,” Hardesty added. “She sets the ball and puts it in places. We talk about it every timeout. We discuss what we’re doing, and she does a good job going out and executing what we want to do.”
Greenville was too much for the Lady Indians in the fourth set, which proved to be the final set of the night, with back-to-back double-digit wins taking the final set 25-14.
“I try to stay super loud and keep everyone encouraged when they get down and pick them back up,” said Peltz. “The last two sets we definitely came out with a lot more intensity, and we were way more aggressive … that really helped us.”
“Best year so far … I love the team chemistry,” Peltz concluded.
With the win, the Lady Wave improves to 6-5 (4-3) on the season while Piqua goes to 6-5 (3-5).
