Regarding the County Commissioners’ recent vote on the Family Health annexation request, while the Commission did vote to deny the annexation, it’s important to clarify that Family Health is contiguous to the City of Greenville and has already signed an annexation agreement with the city.
Because of that, they are eligible to pursue what’s known as a Type 2 (Expedited) Annexation under Ohio law. This process is initiated by the property owner and, if all statutory requirements are met, it does not require a vote by the County Commissioners to proceed.
The city remains ready and willing to support Family Health when they choose to move forward with a Type 2 annexation petition. As discussed in previous council meetings, transportation service to Family Health from within the city was contingent upon the property becoming part of the city. That condition remains in place. We will continue to evaluate how best to serve residents while also being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources.
Annexing the property would indeed provide a notable increase in income tax revenue, which would help support city services, including public transportation. While that potential revenue was not officially budgeted, it was a consideration in our broader planning efforts. We remain committed to working collaboratively with both Family Health and the County to find a path forward that benefits the community as a whole. Thank you.
