HOUSTON—Spirit EMS honored one of its very own this last weekend.

Captain Marburger

Captain Todd Marburger was completely surprised when he was honored by his colleagues on his 10,000th day as a certified EMT in Ohio on Saturday morning.

“I never expected to be recognized for doing my job, and doing something that I love to do,” he said. “It was a good feeling and kind of embarrassing at the same time. I was happy to see all of my family, Spirit Family, and friends there. It shows the support that they have and how caring they are.”

Marburger has been a certified EMT for a total of twenty-seven years, four months, and sixteen days in the state of Ohio.

He said that he loves the challenges that come with the job.

“[I enjoy] The challenge, and that not every run or call is the same,” he said.

He added that just being able to try and make a difference when people are not at their best is another thing he loves about the work.

“The world of EMS today is very hard, and the longevity of EMS workers in the wake of recent times is becoming very short-lived.” Spirit EMS President/CEO Brian K. Hathaway explained. “This type of longevity is becoming unheard of. It’s especially rare for someone who has visions of continuing their EMS career for several more years to come. This is a great milestone to celebrate, and we are forever

grateful for Todd’s continued perseverance as an EMS practitioner and leader in our organization.”

Marburger thanked his family, his past employers, and Spirit EMS for their support during his long-standing career as an EMT.

“[I’d like to thank] My dad Paul R. Marburger for being in the fire department in Brookville, Ohio, for seventeen years and keeping me interested in fire and EMS,” he said. “To Brookville Fire Department for giving me the opportunity to join and be part of their organization for many years. To the other fire departments that I have worked for during my career. To my family Kim, Tanner, Logan, and Miranda for always being there for me and allowing me to be gone for so long and missing their school events and missing family events during the years. To Spirit EMS, for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Spirit Family and support they have given me for nine years.”

“I cannot thank everyone enough for their lov

e and support,” he added.

Spirit EMS is located at 5484 State Route 49 S., Greenville, Ohio, 45331, with additional locations in Houston, Sidney, Van Wert, Celin
