PIQUA – The City of Piqua is proud to announce that its Looney Road Resurfacing Project has been recognized with a 2024 Quality Paving Award by Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO). The award was presented on March 18 during the 2025 Ohio Asphalt Expo, hosted by FPO in Columbus.

The Looney Road Resurfacing Project, covering 4.65 lane miles, was funded by a grant in 2022, designed in 2023, and constructed in 2024. The Quality Paving Award is presented to paving projects that are considered exceptional quality, featuring a smooth, uniform surface, precise joint construction, outstanding ride quality, and minimal roadway noise.

“This recognition reflects the City’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that improve the lives of our residents and enhance our community,” City Manager Paul Oberdorfer said. “We are proud of our engineering team and our partners who made this project a success.”

Walls Brothers Asphalt Company nominated the project, which is among 33 local road paving projects and one of 91 total projects statewide to receive this distinction. Led by the Engineering Division of the Community Services Department, the project involved City staff across the organization.

“This award is a testament to the quality work done by our team and our partners at Walls Brothers Asphalt,” said Kenton Kiser, engineering manager for the City of Piqua. “We are excited to receive this recognition and will continue to strive for excellence in future infrastructure improvements.”
