GREENVILLE – Ray Perkins — better known to many local children as Santa Claus — is once again spreading Christmas cheer along his Rumpke truck route, delivering gifts to families in need for the sixth consecutive holiday season.
“Ray has been doing this for the past six years, and it is a good thing he does,” said Steve Rumpke. “He cares about the community.”
Perkins, along with his son, Austin Perkins, initially funded the gift-giving effort themselves before Rumpke Waste & Recycling stepped in to help support the project.

“My son Austin and I started it, and after several years, Rumpke has helped finance it — they’re paying for it now,” Perkins said. “We just go out and find families that can use a little extra help, and here we are doing it again.”
Barney Rumpke praised Perkins’ commitment to the people he serves each day.
“It’s great what Ray does,” he said. “He is very invested in the community, invested in the customers on his route, and he truly wants to give back. We are happy to help him with the project.”

Rumpke has long been an active presence in Greenville and throughout Darke County, supporting local initiatives and community outreach.
“It’s awesome they step up and support the community,” Perkins said. “They’re very family-friendly, and they help us when we need help.”
As he headed back out on his route, Perkins — in full Santa Claus fashion — had one final message.
“I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” Santa Claus…Ray Perkins said.
