While in Greenville on Sunday afternoon, we decided to take a gander, via a mobile shortcut through Greenville City Park, post-tornado days.
During our “visit,” we learned that there has been much improvement with cleanup as a result of that tornado a few months ago.
Of course, with all of the roadways shut down during that time within the park, we didn’t get to see a lot of the damage that was actually done, but we could only imagine.
Lots of trees were reportedly downed by the strong winds at both the city park and Greenville Union Cemetery, not to mention throughout the county. Lots of work ensued to get the cleanup done, including the start of a drive to set up a fund to provide more trees for these areas.
Those of us who were not affected by the storms can only imagine what Darke Countians had gone through.
Yes, things are looking great and nearly back in order with cleanup and refurbishing, keeping residents and city officials busy.
One building caught my eye when I first saw it and it still captures my attention. It is the shelter house near the playground in the park which received visible damage as did other structures and trees.
I don’t know exactly how much damage was done to that structure but it has yet to be repaired or razed. I remember going there for a few assignments during my journalistic life and even a family reunion one summer. I would hate to see it not get fixed but that’s not my say-so.
Anyways, what a great job everyone has done on the cleanup and restorations. Hopefully, all of Darke County doesn’t see much more of these weather-related events in our lifetime. Wintertime is approaching and that’s always worrisome for me.
But, let’s pray everything goes well weather-wise in the days to come.
