Life’s Reflections: End is near for our five-year-old ride

364

Well, it’s time to say goodbye to my 2004 Chrysler Sebring. She was a great vehicle, of course, until the years started passing us by.

I bought her on July 3, 2019, with 119,000 miles and, as of this date, it has 200,000-plus miles.

How did that happen? I don’t travel out of state usually and not even too much in the state of any distance. Maybe I just overdid it somehow. But I have to remember, I usually drive since some of my passengers can’t.

It was supposed to be my retirement car. And, we loved it. It wasn’t that bad of a vehicle until a rod (don’t ask me what it’s called) broke when I was in Greenville one afternoon and had to have it towed to my mechanic in another too.

Then, more recently, it seemed like it was one thing after another. My mechanic told me at one visit that she (the Sebring) was on her “deathbed.” He may not have said it that way but it felt like it to me.

I knew he was right, yet still hated to give it up. He is the one who also worked on my PT Cruiser, which preceded the Sebring. And, that vehicle was just as special to me.
I will reveal the gender in next week’s column, because as of today I am getting all of the financial work done in order to complete the transition of ownership. Hopefully, that will get done by noon or so.

I want to thank all of those who are making this happen. Now, this will be my retirement car if it holds up for me and I’m sure it will. I’m still semi-retired though, so I don’t know if that counts or not.

I prayed a lot about it, believe it or not, my wish is ready to be realized.

I test-drove it this week, and fell in love with it, all the while hating to let go of my Sebring.

I know I will probably have to get used to some of the features while making the transition.

That’s a little scary, but I will work hard on it.

I will share more next week.
