The Bradford Community Club, located at 154 Miami Ave., was formed in 1983 and incorporated in January 1984.
A non-profit organization, it has served the area well.
“I would say it is a huge plus for the community,” said Rhonda Wysong-Dunlevy, who has been president of the club for the past nine years.
The community club is located where the Bradford Jaycees used to conduct club meetings.
“The building came about when the American Legion disbanded and sold the building to Bradford Community Club,” she said. “The building has been there for over 100 years. It used to be a movie theater.”
The board of directors, she stated, just acquired the gravel lot next door but hasn’t done anything with it yet.
“We hope to fence and have it in the next couple of years,” she said.
The Bradford Club is the venue for numerous activities in and around the village.
“We have several events at the Community Club, starting with the Bradford Pumpkin Show. We are open for the whole five days of the Pumpkin Show,” the president said. “We have several events throughout the year and allow our club to be used for fundraisers for schools, friends and family fund-raisers, funeral dinners, and wedding receptions. And, we are open in our bar September through May on Saturday evenings for our club members.”
During these events, the club provides food for the Pumpkin Show and fundraisers for themselves, while those who are renting the club provide their own food and prepare it at the Community Club.
Organizations permitted to use the building for their own meetings include the school, athletic, church, and other non-profit organizations for meetings and fundraisers.
The next fundraiser is the Music Bingo Singo Benefit for Roan Brubaker on Nov. 9. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and Music Bingo begins at 6 p.m.
Featured in addition to the bingo will be a silent auction, raffle baskets, 50/50 and food and drinks.
It was noted that raffle donations for that benefit can be dropped off at Clark’s Pizza House.
Those wanting tickets for music bingo can get $25 to Angie Byers by calling 937-621-1214.
It was noted that a person does not have to be present to have a card played.
Brubaker, 53, is fighting glioblastoma grade IV, an aggressive brain cancer. Tumor removal was a success and he has started radiation and oral temodar, chemo that targets cancer of the brain.
Wysong-Dunlevy said she got involved with Bradford Jaycees as a child.
“I was involved with Bradford Jaycees through my father and, as a young adult, was involved in The Bradford Community Club because my father was a president of the club at that time. I have been president for the last nine years,” she stated. “I grew up with a father involved in community work and my younger brother, Jim, is also highly involved with community work. No better feeling than to be able to give back to the family and community who gave me the work ethic and values I have today.”
Yes, Rhonda was born and raised in Bradford, the daughter of Charlie Wysong and Barb Wolf.
“I left for 17 years and moved back to Bradford 11 years ago,” she noted.
Rhonda, who has an associate’s degree in nursing, is a hospice nurse at Ohio’s Miami County Hospice and has been a nurse with the organization for 20-plus years.
