Life’s Reflections: Ansonia AEMS marks its 50th anniversary

Lots of information was available to those attending Sunday's 50th anniversary of the Ansonia Area Emergency Service. (Linda Moody photo)

Jamie and I attended the 50th anniversary of the Ansonia Area Emergency Service on Sunday and had a great time.

I spoke to a couple of the original members who were in attendance as well as others who attended and those who helped put on the celebration, which featured not only fellowship but demonstrations, refreshments, viewing life-saving equipment and door prizes.

What I enjoyed viewing was the table displaying many historical items, including photos, news articles and other noteworthy features.

I happened to write an estimated six or seven stories there on display and am always glad when I can see these things to jostle my memory.

My article concerning the celebration will be appearing soon on My County Link.

Let us never forget the terrorist attacks that took place on Sept. 11, 2001 in our nation.
Yes, on Wednesday 23 years ago, the lives of Americans were changed
when what is called the deadliest act of terrorism in history occurred.

Reports note that suicide attackers seized U.S. passenger jets and crashed them into two New York skyscrapers, the World Trade Center’s North and South Towers in Lower Manhattan, killing thousands of people.

A plane was also flown into the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., and a fourth plane, Flight 93, was hijacked but crashed into an empty field in western Pennsylvania after passengers fought back.

It’s been said that a total of 2,996 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks, including the 19 terrorist hijackers aboard the four airplanes.

“Citizens of 78 countries died in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. At the World Trade Center, 2,763 died after the two planes slammed into the twin towers,” one source noted.

How could we ever forget something that horrible? I never will and I
hope nothing like that will ever happen again in the United States or anywhere else.
