Lady Wave Softball sweeps Troy Lady Trojans

GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave earned a heart-stopping seventh inning come from behind win over the Troy Lady Trojans by a 2-1 score to stay perfect on the young season.

“Good teams find ways,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “At the end of the year these will be two of the better teams in the MVL.”

What many billed as the two game series for all the marbles in the Miami Valley League lived up to its hype as Kylie Hamm fouled off 12 pitches before knocking a hard ball to the right side scoring Ashlyn Zimmer with the game winning walk off run with one out in the seventh.

The Lady Trojans pushed a run across in the top of the sixth with the score standing a 1-0 after six complete.

Ashlyn Zimmer stroked a 2-strike Lady Wave double to lead off the bottom of the seventh before a sky high popup off the bat of Alaina Baughn to the middle of the infield with two Lady Trojans colliding opening the door for a heads up Zimmer play to slide safely under a tag at third with Baughn moving to second on the throw.

A popup to second had Greenville with one out bringing Hamm to the plate with Zimmer at third and courtesy runner, Ella Stebbins standing on second setting up Hamm’s battle at the plate. A Trojans passed ball had Zimmer sliding safely home from third with the game tying run. Hamm fouled pitch after pitch off before knocking the 13th pitch on a hard grounder to second scoring Stebbins with the walk-off winning run.

Zoey Burns went the distance on the mound for the Lady Wave to pick up the win on 4-hits,  no walks while striking out 8 Lady Trojans.

Zimmer pace Greenville at the plate collection two of the team’s three hits, both doubles and Alaina Baughn had a single. Hamm accounted for both LWSB RBIs.

“Just awesome sweep,” Newman said. “A good program win. Love where we’re at and a good opportunity to go at it and we’ll get better – we’ll be good by June.”
