GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave kept rolling Monday night, earning their 10th straight win of the 2026 season with a 14-1 five-inning run-rule victory over the Vandalia Butler Lady Aviators at Lady Wave Stadium.
The win marked Greenville’s second 14-1 run-rule victory over Butler this season and improved the Lady Wave to 10-1 overall.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Anytime we come out and get a league win, a home-field win.”
“We come out, play a good game, and 10-1 on the year,” Newland added. “Get a league win and excited for the week and we get better tomorrow and Wednesday.”
Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with the help of two Butler errors.
The Lady Aviators answered in the top of the second, using a sacrifice bunt to plate their lone run of the game and tie the score at 1-1.
The Lady Wave quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, taking control with five runs. Greenville scored all five with two outs, turning a close game into a 6-1 advantage. Lily Brubaker delivered a key single to center, while Leah Force came up with the big blow of the inning, ripping a run-scoring double to left.
Greenville broke the game open in the third, scoring six more runs on three hits to push the lead to 12-1. Rylie Pfledderer drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Force singled home two more, Jordyn McMullen added a two-run single, and Rielynn Davidson followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Wave added their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Butler committed two more errors to open the inning before Hallee Fourman singled to left and Riley Thomas added another single. Callie Zwiesler later drew an RBI walk as Greenville built its 14-1 lead.
With the outcome well in hand, Coach Jerrod Newland cleared his bench in the fourth and fifth innings and twice in each frame used the old “leave the base too soon” tactic to help keep the final score respectable.
“Played 21 kids tonight, that’s pretty cool and fun for the kids, fun for the program and I love where we’re at,” said Newland. “We have 15 really, really, really good softball players that we have to start working in and getting them going because it’s early April and those kids will get better and we’ll get better all April and get better in May. I am excited for this group. Really like where we’re at.”
Ella Oswalt earned the win in the circle for Greenville, allowing two hits and one run over three innings while striking out five and walking none. Lizzie Shaffer worked the final two innings in relief, tossing shutout ball while allowing one hit and one walk and striking out one.
At the plate, sophomore shortstop Leah Force led the way, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Freshman Jordyn McMullen finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Greenville also showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks in four innings, with Pfledderer and Shaffer each collecting two.
The Lady Wave was also clean defensively, playing error-free softball behind their pitchers.
Greenville returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Stebbins at Lady Wave Stadium.
“We have Stebbins coming in,” said Newland. “They have won 6-of-7 since we beat them, so it should be a fun day there and a neat weekend ahead. Just a fun day for the softball program coming off a big weekend, get back to school and get things flowing again, and it’s back to work, back to business.”
