GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave varsity soccer team dropped a 4-0 match to a good Xenia Lady Buccaneers team at the Jennings Track and Field Complex.

“I am really happy with where we are at with these young girls,” said Greenville coach John Tabler. “We have a couple of girls now we were able to sub in. We’ll just keep pushing them in practice and we’ll keep coming out and battling people every week. That’s all we can do.”

Xenia got on the board first with a little bit of luck when the Lady Wave goalkeeper, Rachel Wright, attempted to kick the ball deep, only to have the ball ricochet off a Lady Buccaneers player for a goal and a 1-0 advantage.

“It was the worst luck in the world,” Tabler stated. “Rachael Wright, she just blasted the ball, and she jumped and threw her body in the way, and there goes. We’ve been working on how to become more aggressive as a goalie, and tonight, she played lights out. Her diving save on that far end was an amazing dive and save and that is exactly what we are looking for because that will inspire the rest of our players. She is working hard.”

Xenia scored two more first-half goals to lead 3-0 at the halftime break.

A single second-half Lady Buccaneers goal gave the visitors a 4-0 win.

“There’s improvement, that’s the bonus for me at this point,” Coach Table said. “We have two freshmen that are starting that are playing exceptionally well. Hailey Moore and Claire Lyons. I think they are playing above and beyond themselves. I am so tickled with them.”
