
WEST CARROLLTON – The Greenville Lady Wave upped its season record to 17-4 with their 11th consecutive win in defeating the home-standing West Carrollton Lady Pirates 16-3 in a 5-inning run rule game.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Coach Jerrod Newland. “Great team day and road win. Played 21 kids and pitched all 3 pitchers. Awesome to move to 17-4 and 11-1 in MVL.
Greenville jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead with the aid of a Kaylar Arnett leadoff double, Mahayla Cook taking first by way of a hit batsman, a Pirates error, an Addie Burke RBI single, a Kendall Crowell run-scoring double and an RBI Savannah Leach single to center.
The Lady Wave took advantage of an Arnett second-inning leadoff single, a Zoey Burns single to center, and Arnett scoring on a passed ball. Cromwell stroked a run-scoring single to center and Haleigh McDermitt knocked a 2-run single to left for a 9-0 Greenville lead after 2 complete bringing wholesale substitutions for the Lady Wave.
Rielynn Davidson led off the third with a single to center followed by a single off the bat of Kara Blumenstock. A Lady Pirates double play scored a GHS run for a 10-0 lead after three.
The Wave fourth inning added 2 runs with a Rylie Pfledderer opening walk, Liz Shaffer hit an RBI single to center and Maddie Hutchens drove a run-scoring double to right for a 12-0 score with four innings in the book.
Greenville plated 4 runs in the top of the fifth with a Marissa Hicks leadoff single, a Pfledder single, a Jaelyn Christman RBI single, a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Carlee Yundt, a Morgan Thompson double to left, and a 2 run Hutchens double to center for a 16-0 Lady Wave lead.
West Carrollton found its stride in the bottom of the fifth pounding out 4 hits to plate 3 runs in coming up short falling to the Lady Wave.
Greenville played error-free ball while the Lady Pirates had a single error.
“Can’t wait to get on the bus and go to Butler tomorrow (Tuesday),” Newland said. “Mission is on and we are excited for Butler rematch. Fun week ahead and many opportunities.” Greenville hosts West Carrollton in a Wednesday matchup and a Friday game with the Troy with the Lady Trojans in town.
Burns picked up the win throwing 2.0 scoreless innings of 1 hit ball with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Shaffer tossed 2.0 shutout innings allowing 2 hits, no walks, and 3 strikeouts. Thompson was touched up for 3 runs on 4 hits, no walks, and 1 strikeout in 1.0 innings of work.
Hutchens went 2-2 with both doubles and 3 RBI; Cromwell 2-2 including a double and 2 RBI; Arnett 2-2 with a double and 2 runs.
