GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave volleyball program hosted Bellefontaine, Brookville, Mississinawa Valley, and Tri-Village in a five-team Tuesday night scrimmage.

The Lady Wave was coming off a three-hour Monday night scrimmage heading into the three-hour Tuesday night warmup for the 2024 regular season.

“We had a three-hour scrimmage last night, so they are tired,” said Lady Wave coach Michelle Hardesty. “We are still facing some adversity with coming back from some illnesses and some injuries. They’re going to get there.”

Coach Hardesty expects a good season from the Lady Wave as they take on the MVL for a shot at a league title.

“I see them talking and working together,” Hardesty stated. “We have high expectations for the team this year, and I don’t think tonight was any indication of that high expectation, but they hear what we are talking to them about, and they put forth an effort. Scrimmaging, that’s what it’s all about.”

With a large roster going into the season, Coach Hardesty must filter through many pieces of the puzzle to pick a varsity squad and a JV team.

“You’re not playing with your core group all the time,” Hardesty said. “You’re trying to figure out what that core group is, so we’re asking them to play with different people beside them and learn each other’s tendencies.”

“Scrimmaging is great, but you will never really get a full idea of what you’re going to be like going into the season,” added Coach Hardesty. “We have one more scrimmage on Thursday (at Franklin Monroe) so maybe it will narrow things down a little bit – so we’ll see how it goes.”
