OXFORD – The Greenville Lady Wave were unable to overcome a 6-0 lead after three innings of play in falling to the Western Brown Lady Broncos 6-2 in the OHSAA DIII Regional Championship game.
“I would like to thank Lady Wave Nation for an amazing ’25 season, like to thank three seniors for great careers, them and their families,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. We did everything but win. Hats off to the kids, we grew up a little bit, and a fun day.”

“We played poorly, and after three innings we’re down 6-0,” Newland added. “We left five on base, and they made three great catches. Bottom line is they hit a little better than us today, they made every play … picked a bad day to have a bad game.”
Playing their final career LWSB game included seniors No. 5 Kylar Arnett, No. 19 Morgan Thompson, and No. 21 Zoey Burns.

“Very proud of the kids, three great seniors,” Newland stated. “Last inning, Morgan leads off with a hit, Zoey hits the ball hard all week, Kylar plays a solid second base.”
Greenville’s scoring came on a sixth-inning leadoff single to left off the bat of freshman Ella Oswalt and a two-out, 2 RBI home run over the (220-foot) centerfield fence by freshman shortstop Leah Force.

“We kept it interesting the whole game,” said Newland. “It was fun, fun atmosphere, did everything but win.”
Greenville freshman shortstop Leah Force went 1-3, including a home run, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored. Zoey Burns went 2-4 with a single and a double, and Oswalt had a single and a run scored. Lizzie Shaffer, Rielynn Davidson, Morgan Thompson, Lily Brubaker, and Kendall Cromwell each had a single on the day.

Oswalt was saddled with the loss, pitching the opening 3.0 innings. Shaffer tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of 2-hit ball in relief to close out the game.

The 2025 Lady Wave Softball team recorded its 22nd consecutive season with an unprecedented 25 or more wins, MVL Champions with a perfect 18-0 season, OHSAA DIII Regional Runner Up, and closed out the year with an impressive 27-3 record.
“We kept it interesting the whole game, but we picked a bad day to play a ‘B’ game,” Coach Newland said. “They made every play, they hit better, they win.”
