GREENVILLE — Defending state champion Tippecanoe rebounded from its first loss in nearly two years with a three-set victory over Greenville in Miami Valley League volleyball action.
The Red Devils controlled the match from the opening serve, winning 25-6, 25-8 and 25-14.
Tippecanoe entered the match still stinging from a three-set loss to Butler that ended its 38-match winning streak. It was the program’s first defeat since falling to eventual state runner-up Ursuline Academy in five sets during the 2024 Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament.
The Red Devils followed that postseason loss with a perfect 29-0 season and an OHSAA state championship in 2025.
Tippecanoe quickly returned to its winning ways following the Butler loss, earning consecutive three-set victories over Beavercreek and Greenville.
“They were coming off a loss to Butler, so I assumed we were going to get their best effort tonight, and I’m pretty sure we did,” Greenville assistant coach Jim Hardesty said. “We just have to find a way to compete in these kinds of matches where the other team is a little bit more determined than we are.”
“We didn’t come out fighting when we needed to, but I’m proud of these girls.”
Despite facing a large deficit, the Green Wave continued diving for loose balls and battling through the final point.
“They’re doing their best,” Hardesty said. “I think they’re hustling and doing the things they’re supposed to be doing. It’s not like they’re giving up. Sometimes you just run into a team that is better than you, and tonight was one of those nights.”
Greenville moved to 7-7 overall and 5-5 in MVL play.
