GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave earned a 61-35 MVL win over the visiting West Carrollton Lady Pirates in a Saturday home game led by six Avery Baumann 3-pointers.
“It’s fun to see,” Greenville coach Rachael Kerns said of Baumann’s 3-point shooting. “That helped our bigs inside out a lot. She is a really good shooter.”

The Lady Wave took advantage of a Baumann 4-point play with a 3-pointer and free throw to bolt out to a 10-1 lead at the 5:05 mark of the opening quarter. A Brooke Schmidt bucket in the paint gave Greenville a double-digit 14-4 lead at 3:12, bringing a timeout from the Lady Pirates bench. The Lady Wave took an 18-8 lead after one quarter of play, led by 10 Baumann points, including three treys.
Baumann drained two more 3’s in the second period, with the Lady Wave taking the period 15-13, sending the teams to the break with Greenville up 33-21.

“Defensively today, they didn’t put as much full-court pressure as we normally see from West Carrollton,” Kerns noted. “We were anticipating a little bit more, but they left Avery to get comfortable, and that’s not usually a good thing.”
The third period went to Greenville 20-6, led by the inside play of Megan Lind’s eight points and six Brooke Schmidt points, while Baumann was drilling her sixth trey of the game, giving the home team a 53-27 advantage with one period to play.

“I told them if they ever wanted to rebound, here was your chance to go do it,” Kerns said of Lind and Schmidt. “West Carrollton has nice big bodies inside there, but we did a good job working to get that second and third opportunity. We had 18 offensive rebounds and that means they wanted the ball today.”
Coach Kerns used the fourth-quarter bench, giving young players varsity experience in earning the league win.

“Sometimes we do all the right things, and it looks good,” said Coach Kerns. “Jayda Lyons cut hard to the basket and hit the open person. Sara Loudy was solid today. She came in and held No. 21 in check today, even more so she was all over it, she was going after loose balls. She continued to be what we need her to be.”
