GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave used a perfect game to defeat the Belmont Lady Bison 11-1 in the first round of DII OHSAA tournament action at Lady Wave Stadium.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Amazing opportunity to start the 2023 tournament trail and move to round two.”

Greenville coach Jerrod Newland had seven of his regulars in tennis shoes before the opening pitch of the night was thrown giving his younger players varsity starting time on the field.

The Lady Wave plated five-runs in the bottom of the first, three in the second and two in the four while keeping the game respectable with the “runner leaving the base” too soon starting in the first-inning at the plate.

“Hamm and Morgan combined on game and lots of kids got some great experience at the varsity level,” Newland said. “Excited for tomorrow (Wednesday) to win overall MVL outright and a get ready for round two Thursday here at Lady Wave Stadium.”

Kylie Hamm picked up the win tossing 3.0 perfect innings … no hits, no walks while striking out seven. Morgan Thompson pitched 2.0 perfect innings … no hits, no walks while striking out six.
