GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave turned in a dominant performance Tuesday night, blanking Stebbins 13-0 in Miami Valley League action behind a combined one-hit shutout from sophomore Ella Oswalt and junior Lizzie Shaffer.

Oswalt was sharp from the opening pitch, throwing four innings of perfect softball while striking out eight. Shaffer took over in relief and continued the strong work in the circle, allowing just one hit over the final three innings while striking out four.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Played solid and Ella and Lizzie looked good on the mound.”

Greenville wasted little time getting started offensively, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Wave took advantage of a Stebbins error and then got an RBI single to center field from Rielynn Davidson to go in front 2-0.

The Lady Wave added another run in the third when shortstop Leah Force crushed a solo home run to center field on a 3-0 count, extending the lead to 3-0.

“Played some defense and hit it some,” Newland said. “Liz Shaffer and Leah Force went yard.”

Force had a huge night at the plate, collecting four hits in five at-bats. She doubled in the first inning, homered in the third, singled in the fifth, and added another single in the seventh. She also swiped two bases in the win.

Greenville continued to produce offensively, breaking the game open with a big seventh inning. The Lady Wave scored four runs on five hits in the frame, highlighted by a run-scoring double from Cloe Shuttleworth and a three-run homer to left field by Shaffer.

Shaffer drove in three runs from the middle of the lineup while finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.

In all, Greenville pounded out 17 hits in the win. Along with Force’s four-hit night, Shuttleworth and Davidson each finished with multiple hits as the Lady Wave lineup kept pressure on Stebbins throughout the game.

Oswalt earned the win, giving up no hits and no runs over four innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. Shaffer followed with three shutout innings, allowing one hit, striking out four, and walking none.

Stebbins was limited to just one hit in the conference matchup.

The Greenville junior varsity team also had a successful evening, sweeping Beavercreek at home Tuesday night.

Next up for Greenville is a road game Wednesday at Xenia, while the Lady Wave JV team will host Milton-Union.
