XENIA – The Greenville Lady Wave made short work in run ruling the Xenia Lady Buccaneers 14-3 in five-innings of work on the Lady Buccaneers home field.
“Great day for the kids and program,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Great to get a road win.”
Greenville plated two runs in the top of the first, two in the top of the second to lead 4-0 with Xenia coming to the plate in the bottom of the second to score a single run.
The teams went quietly in the third inning with the Lady Buccaneers attempting a comeback with a run in the bottom of the fourth to close within 4-2 before Greenville broke the game open with 10 fifth-inning runs to lead 14-2.
Xenia plated a run in the bottom of the fifth only to come up short with the Lady Wave taking home a 14-3 MVL win.
Zoey Burns picked up the win pitching 4.0 innings of 2-hit ball, allowing 1-earned run, 1-walk while striking out four. Kylie Hamm pitched 1-inning in relief allowing no earned runs, 2-hits and no walks or strikeouts.
“Zoey and Hamm combined for the win,” Coach Newland noted.
Greenville freshman, Kendall Cromwell had a perfect night hitting going 4-4 including a double, 3-RBIs and a run scored and Kylar Arnett was 2-4 with a triple, 5-RBIs and a run to lead the Lady Wave at the plate. Skylar Fletcher went 2-4, 3-RBIs and 2-runs; Burns was 2-4, 1-RBI; Ashlyn Zimmer 2-3, a walk, 2-runs; Addie Burke 1-2, 2-RBIs, 1-run; Kylie Hamm 1-2; Lilly Brubaker 2-runs; Mahayla Cook 2-runs; Elleigh Downey 1-run; Kaleigh McDermitt 2-runs.
“Cromwell and Arnett had huge days,” said Newland.
The Lady Wave return home to take on the West Carrollton Lady Pirates today, Friday, April 28 at Lady Wave Stadium with a 5 p.m. start time.
With the win Greenville improves to 11-1 in MVL play and 14-4 overall on the season.
