Greenville Lady Wave stay perfect on season with 8-1 non-conference win over Milton-Union Lady Bulldogs

WEST MILTON – The Greenville Lady Wave defeated the Milton-Union Lady Bulldogs 8-1 in non-conference softball action Tuesday night on the Bulldogs home field.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball and great road game today,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Two good teams and a fun atmosphere.”

Greenville got things rolling in the top of the first with a Skylar Fletcher lead off triple to left. A dropped third strike plated Fletcher with the game’s first run. Alaina Baughn doubled to left putting runners on first and third setting up a Kylar Arnett RBI ground out to third to put the Lady Wave up 2-0.

The Lady Wave tacked on a third inning run with an Ashlyn Zimmer single and a RBI single off the bat of Baughn. The Lady Bulldogs would score its lone run of the night in the bottom of the inning sending the game to the fourth with Greenville leading 3-1.

Greenville pushed its lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth with a Fletcher lead off single to left and Zoey Burns picking up a RBI on a ground out to short. The Lady Wave took advantage of a Bulldogs error to plate its second run of the inning and lead 5-1.

Kylie Hamm drilled a homer over the right field fence to lead off the Lady Wave’s sixth inning. Back to back one out walks to Haleigh McDermitt and Fletcher set up a two out 2-run single off the bat of Burns giving the Lady Wave an 8-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Skylar Fletcher 2-3 including a triple, a walk, 3-runs scored; Kylie Hamm 2-3 including a home run, 1-RBI, 1-run; Alaina Baughn 2-4 including a double, 1-RBI; Zoey Burns 1-4, 4-RBIs, 1 run; Ashlyn Zimmer 1-4, 2-runs; Kylar Arnett 1-3, 1-RBI; Ella McLear 1-1; Ella Stebbins, 1-walk, 1-run; Haleigh McDermitt 1-walk.

Hamm earned the win pitching 4.2 innings for Greenville allowing 1-earned run, 1-walk while striking out five. Burns pitched 2.1 innings in relief allowing no runs, no walks and striking out three.

The Lady Wave return to MVL action tonight, April 5 at Fairborn with a 5 p.m. start time.
