NOTICE – The Greenville Lady Wave’s OHSAA Division III District Championship game has been moved up to an earlier start time. The game will now be played at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, May 21, at National Trail High School.

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Lady Wave used an explosive eight-run second inning and a combined perfect game in a weather-shortened 11-0 victory over the Butler Lady Aviators Tuesday night, advancing to the OHSAA Division III District Championship game.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Fun day and nice crowd. Lots of neon around the park.”

The tournament matchup was scoreless through the opening inning before Greenville’s offense erupted in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Wave sent the lineup around during the frame, scoring eight runs to seize complete control of the contest. Kara Blumenstock and Hallee Fourman each drove in runs with groundouts before Leah Force launched a solo home run to center field. Consecutive Butler errors plated two more runs, setting the stage for freshman catcher Jordyn McMullen, who crushed a three-run homer deep over the center-field fence to cap the inning and give Greenville an 8-0 advantage.

Greenville added three more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Fourman started the rally with a line-drive single to right field before Force followed with an RBI double to left. Ella Oswalt then delivered the final blow, blasting a two-run home run to center field as the Lady Wave took an 11-run lead after three innings.

A sudden storm interrupted play following the third inning, sending both teams to their dugouts as rain, lightning, and thunder forced the required 30-minute delay.

When play resumed, Lizzie Shaffer took over in the circle for Greenville and recorded two quick outs, preserving the perfect game. Moments later, another round of severe weather moved into the area. With wind, rain, and lightning returning, both coaches agreed to call the game, giving Greenville the run-rule victory and advancement in tournament play.

Oswalt earned the win, pitching three perfect innings. The sophomore allowed no hits and no runs while striking out five and issuing no walks. Shaffer retired both batters she faced in relief before the game was officially called.

“Ella was sharp today and excited to get going,” Newland said. “Liz came in and finished great.”

The Lady Wave’s power surge featured three home runs, coming from sophomores Force and Oswalt and freshman McMullen.

“Excited for the game and Ella, Leah, and Jordyn all hit ’em very square,” said Newland.

Offensively, Oswalt and Force each collected two hits while batting back-to-back in the lineup. McMullen drove in a team-high three runs as Greenville continued its dominant postseason run.

The Lady Wave also played flawless defense behind their pitchers, committing no errors, while Butler committed four miscues.

With the 11-0 perfect game win over the Lady Aviators, the Lady Wave swept their MVL foe 3-0 by scores of 14-1, 14-1, and 11-0.

With the victory, Greenville improves to 27-1 on the season and advances to the District Championship game, where the Lady Wave will face the No. 8 seed Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets. Sidney earned a 2-1 upset victory over No. 3 seed Franklin to reach the title game.

The Lady Wave defeated the MVL’s Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets 11-1 and 7-0 in 2026 league play.

The district championship is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, with the site to be announced.

“Get a chance to get a Gold Medal – can’t wait,” Newland said. “Now 27-1 and ready to get Gold.”
