GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave completed a rain-delayed MVL matchup with West Carrollton at Stebbins Field, rolling to a 12-0 five-inning run-rule win behind a two-hit shutout from Lizzie Shaffer.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Lizzie pitched well, and the defense backed her up. Great team win.”
Shaffer went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits and no runs over five innings while striking out nine and walking one. The Lady Wave also played error-free defense behind her.
Greenville wasted little time taking control, getting on the board in the first inning when Ella Oswalt singled home a run.
The Lady Wave added four more in the second. Leah Force delivered a two-run single, Oswalt followed with an RBI double, and Shaffer doubled in another run to extend the Greenville lead.
Force had a big night at the plate, collecting three hits in four at-bats. She singled in the second, fourth, and fifth innings and finished with three RBIs.
Greenville broke the game open with six runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Force singled in a run, Shaffer added an RBI groundout, Jordyn McMullen drove in a run with a single, Kara Blumenstock drilled a two-run double, and another run scored on a West Carrollton error.
The Lady Wave finished with 12 hits. Force and Shaffer each drove in three runs, while McMullen and Oswalt each collected two hits.
Kylee Adams started for West Carrollton and took the loss, allowing 12 runs, five earned, on 12 hits over five innings while striking out two and walking two.
The Lady Wave did not commit an error in the conference game, while the Lady Pirates were saddled with seven errors.
“Made some plays, hit the ball pretty well,” Newland said. “Excited for where we are at. Good opportunities ahead. Fun stuff, and kids running around and playing, having fun.”
The win kept Greenville rolling in MVL play as the Lady Wave continues their strong season at Stebbins Field.
