FAIRBORN – The Greenville Lady Wave defeated the Tecumseh Lady Arrows 3-0 Saturday morning in OHSAA DIII first-round tournament play by 25-22, 25-22, and 26-16 scores.
“We’re just not a morning team, but they got together,” said Greenville coach Michelle Hardesty. “They had breakfast this morning. We took some time to wake up a little bit, still a little slow, but it’s a win, and we were super proud of the girls the way they played. It was a commendable performance today.”

The Lady Wave trailed 2-6, 6-9, 21-20, and saw the score tied at 6-6, 10-10, 17-17, 18-18, 20-20, 22-22 before Greenville scored three unanswered points to close out the opening set with a 25-22 win.
In the second set, Greenville grabbed leads only to have the Lady Arrows battle back. With the teams tied 4-4, Greenville used a 5-1 run to lead 9-5, bringing a timeout from the Tecumseh bench. The Lady Wave extended its lead to 12-6 and 15-9, only to have the Lady Arrows close within one, trailing 16-15, bringing a Greenville timeout.

The Lady Wave scored the first three points out of the timeout to lead 19-15. Greenville once again took a timeout with a one-point lead at 20-19, but this time, the Lady Arrows used two unanswered points to lead the Lady Wave 21-20.
Greenville took advantage of a 5-1 scoring run to close the second set, with the Lady Wave earning a 25-22 win to go up 2-0.

The Lady Wave ditched the early morning slows, jumping out to a 10-4 third-set lead. Greenville extended its lead to double digits at 21-11 and 23-13 before taking the final set 25-16 to advance in tournament play, proving that good teams find a way to win.
Schmidt led the Lady Wave with 18 kills, Peltz led with 13 digs followed by 12 Gibboney digs.
“Shyanne (Gibboney) had a phenomenal game today as a Libero, as a defensive specialist,” Coach Hardesty noted. “She rarely missed a ball, and all her serves were spot on, and we need that. Her being a senior sowed some leadership. Brooke (Schmidt) of course stands out as always.”

“It takes a whole team,” Hardesty added. “Our hitters aren’t going to get anything without a good pass, and Kindyl (Peltz) puts up a great set, and she played just as well today, too.”
The No. 5 seed Lady Wave will travel to Fairborn on Tuesday, October 22, for round two tournament play with the No. 1 seed Tippecanoe Lady Red Devils, which will start at 6 p.m.

“We have some work to do the next couple of days to take on our next match on Tuesday,” Hardesty said.
The Lady Red Devils defeated West Carrollton in straight sets 25-6, 25-8, and 25-7 in their opening round.
