VANDALIA – A slow start was too much to overcome as the Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks season came to a close with a 61-29 loss to the Fort Loramie Lady Redskins in OHSAA DVII Regional Finals.

“We made history for our school so we’re proud of the girls, they gave it their all,” said Mississinawa Valley coach Michael Paige. “We are definitely proud of everything we accomplished, a lot of trophies for the cases, not the big one but a lot of trophies for the cases. This is the biggest season ever accomplished at Mississinawa Girls, so we’re proud of it.”
The Lady Redskins came out in the opening period clicking on all cylinders to grab an insurmountable 21-2 lead.

Mississinawa Valley stepped up play in the second quarter with Fort Loramie taking the period by an 8-6 score sending the teams to the break with the Lady Redskins holding a 29-8 advantage.
The Lady Blackhawks proved they earned playing in the Regional Final game winning period No. 3 by 19-10 with Lady Hawks junior Brooklynn Seubert knocking down five baskets good for 10 points and a 12 point 39-27 Redskins lead heading to the final period of play.

“The second half we came out and started fighting,” Coach Paige noted. “Our pressure obviously affected Fort Loramie. We were able to get the game close and came back.”
The fourth quarter saw three Lady Hawks foul out in a period of 30 seconds dashing any hopes of an upset win over the No. 1 seed Lady Redskins with Fort Loramie taking the final quarter by a 22-2 score.

“In the first half, we struggled, nerves, whatever you want to call it,” Paige stated. “The second half, we got it to 12, and we fought hard but just came up short in this one.”
“We just didn’t have enough, couldn’t fight off all the foul calls against our girls,” added Paige. “Eventually they had to come out, so that hurt us at the end.”

The Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks made history getting to the Elite 8 while playing in the program’s first Regional Final.
Six MV Lady Blackhawks seniors played their final career game for the Black and White: No. 1 Emily Byram; No. 5 Taylee Woodbury; No. 13 Caeden Fritz; No. 21 Syenna Purdin; No. 23 Stephany De La Torre; No. 45 Lupe Couchot.
