Lady Blackhawks Unleash 24–0 Run, Crush Dixie 60–18

UNION CITY – What began as a tight WOAC matchup quickly turned into a Mississinawa Valley showcase as the Lady Blackhawks blew out the Dixie Lady Greyhounds 60–18 behind a dominant defensive performance and a combined 43 points from Brooklynn and Cassidy Seubert.

Mississinawa opened with a 6–0 lead before Dixie answered with a 12–5 run to take a brief 12–11 advantage with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter. That would be the final moment of momentum for the visitors.

“I thought the difference in the game was when obviously our pressure wasn’t affecting them because they were throwing over the top of our press,” said Mississinawa Valley coach Kirk Comer. “We went to a half-court trap, and everything changed. Once we got a couple of baskets in a row, we got some confidence and went from there.”

The switch sparked a 24–0 Mississinawa Valley run, turning an 11–12 deficit into a commanding 35–12 lead. Dixie managed just one point—a free throw with four minutes left—before hitting a last-second basket to end the half. The Blackhawks’ smothering defense held Dixie to three second-quarter points and sent MV into the locker room up 43–15.

Senior standout Brooklynn Seubert, a 2024–25 WOAC First Team All-Conference selection, dominated inside, scoring 15 points in the first quarter and eight more in the second. Freshman Cassidy Seubert added four first-quarter points and eight in the second, giving the sisters a combined 35 points by halftime.

“We thought she could,” Comer said of Brooklynn’s effectiveness in the lane. “She is so athletic. If someone is bigger than her, she can go around them. She had a really good game.”

The third quarter brought more defensive havoc. The Lady Hawks pitched a 12–0 shutout in the frame and triggered a running clock at the 4:12 mark with a 51–15 advantage, stretching the lead to 58–15 after three quarters.

“To be honest, I didn’t know we were on the running clock at that time,” Comer admitted. “But when the clock starts running, it goes pretty quickly.”

With MV’s starters on the bench in the fourth, the Hawks added two points and held Dixie scoreless until the final horn, when Maddison Caldwell hit a corner three at the buzzer—Dixie’s lone field goal of the second half.

“Our defense was pretty good,” said Comer. “We did some things we haven’t practiced a lot, and our half-court defense as well. Some people were in some different spots tonight, and I thought overall we did better than we did the first game.”

Mississinawa was outstanding at the foul line, finishing 14-of-15. Cassidy Seubert went 4-for-4, Paige Emrick 2-for-2, and Brooklynn Seubert an impressive 8-for-9, including eight straight.

“I’m really happy with our free-throw shooting,” Comer added. “Our first game, we didn’t get to the line very much, and when we did, we didn’t shoot it very well. A lot better tonight.”

Brooklynn Seubert led all scorers with 29 points, all in the first three quarters. Cassidy Seubert added 14, rounding out another strong night for the young freshman.

“We took a step forward tonight,” Comer concluded. “We just have to come back tomorrow, have a good practice, and get ready for Fort Recovery on Friday.”
