Jerome H. Hartzell age 84, of Versailles passed away at 10:42 am Monday, April 22, 2024, at his residence.
Jerome was born August 6, 1939, in Darke County to the late Harold H. & Eleanor (Berger) Hartzell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lavon (Hiatt) Hartzell on November 24, 2020, whom he married July 17, 1960; sister & brother-in-law, Joann & James Freeman; brother-in-law, Allen Harman; and sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Joan & Jerry Gigandet.
Jerome is survived by his children, Tamala K. & Dan Drees of Versailles and Keith D. & Deb Hartzell of Versailles; grandchildren, Greg & Amber Garland, Michelle & Brent Peterson, Kirstie Hartzell, Kim Hartzell, Crystal Hartzell and Chelsea Bohan; great-grandchildren, Cale Garland, Waylon Garland, Amari Bohan, Josiah Bohan, Joaquin Bohan, Georgia Bohan, Emma Hartzell, Kaden Sexton, Liam Hartzell, Jack Sexton, Aiden Hartzell and Forrest Russell; sister & brother-in-law, Carolyn & Don Waymire of Versailles; sister-in-law, Judith Tolle of Vanceburg, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Terry Hiatt of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerome served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from General Motors in Dayton after 30 years of service. Jerome was a member of the Versailles Christian Church, Versailles Eagles and Good Sam Club. Jerome enjoyed traveling, camping, motorcycling and spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, April 26, 2024, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Russell Wulber officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles with full military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
