Janice Lucille Oliver, 88, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born on August 5, 1936, in Pitsburg, Ohio, to the late Chester and Edna (Hemmerich) Hendrickson.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Oliver, whom she married on June 5, 1954, and who passed away on June 21, 2019; and her sister and brother-in-law, Violet (Elvin) Hollinger.

Janice is survived by her children, Jeff (Kate) Oliver of Cosby, Tennessee, Joann (Greg) Maltinsky of Minster, Ohio, and Jill (Brian) Dean of Beavercreek, Ohio; her many grand and great-grandchildren; her in-laws, Phyllis Oliver of Versailles and David Oliver of Miami, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice was a 1954 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Shortly after graduating, she married the love of her life, Gene. They returned to Versailles to Gene’s family business, Oliver Nursery. Until their retirement, Janice and her husband dedicated their lives to the success of the nursery. Aside from the nursery, Janice also worked for Versailles Elementary School as a cook. While raising her family, Janice volunteered her time as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Janice loved flowers and was a member of the Versailles Garden Club. If she wasn’t outside tending to her flowers or looking after baby animals, she was probably found singing. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Choir and the Tri-Sounds music group. Janice and Gene were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.

Guests may visit on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the start of the service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
