GREENVILLE – Lady Wave senior, Kylie Hamm pitched a no-hitter over the visiting Stebbins Lady Indians in Tuesday night MVL action at Stebbins Field, home of the Lady Wave softball program by a 14-0 score.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “It’s nice to get a win, great crowd today, beautiful facilities, beautiful crowd, just fun stuff.”

The “batter leading off too soon” was put in play by Coach Jerrod Newland to keep the game respectable as the Lady Wave would earn the win in just four-innings at the plate.

The teams played to a 0-0 score after one-inning of play before the Lady Wave broke the game open with 4-runs in the second, 5-runs in the third and five fourth-innings.

Greenville earned the win knocking out 8-hits while being aided by seven Lady Indians’ errors. The Lady Wave committed one error on the day.

The big defensive play of the day was a major league 6-4-3 double play by the Lady Wave.

“We’ve been working in practice a lot, just have to get a kid on though in a game to hit it to you when those happen,” said Newland. “We’re going to roll a lot this year. We’re pretty smooth, pretty aggressive and the kids love where we’re at…we’re going to get better.”

“Senior, Hamm comes out here throws a no-hitter, pitches great,” Newland stated. “We made some great defensive plays out here, rolled a couple up and just excited for the kids. We have a big opportunity Wednesday (April 12) with Covington coming in, good team.”

The Lady Wave got doubles off the bats of Ella McLear and Haleigh McDermitt and singles from Skylar Fletcher, Addie Burke, Alaina Baughn, Ashlyn Zimmer, Kylar Arnett and Kendall Cromwell.

“Excited for the week,” said Coach Newland. “Covington tomorrow, Tippecanoe Friday, heading to Kings Saturday. Look at the schedule, two off days from here throughout so I’m excited to play every day, get a little consistency, getting kids in new spots, new faces and we’ll get better as we go.”

The Lady Wave Softball program is off to an excellent start on the 2023 season.
