TIPP CITY – The Greenville varsity tennis team beat the weekend rain and finished second in a field of eight teams at the Schroeder Indoor Tennis Complex.

Greenville placed second as a team in solid competition and concluded with many outstanding individual performances. Every player finished in the top three and left with some hardware.

“I was really happy to be able to play this weekend despite the weather being so poor,” said Greenville coach Sam Bowers. “We wanted to get in a tournament like this early in the season where you’re playing quick single set matches to allow us to get experience and improve as a team.”

“We exceeded my expectations that I thought were pretty high,” Bowers added. “We were able to finish second as a team out of eight, finishing just a couple of points behind a great West Milton Team. Every athlete on our team performed well enough to leave with a medal in their bracket.”

The competing teams were Greenville, West Milton, Troy, Vandalia Butler, Lehman Catholic, Sidney, Northmont, and St. Mary’s.

Greenville senior Mason Pierri finished as the champion for the first Singles bracket by defeating excellent top talented opponents.

“Mason Pierri played the best tennis I’ve seen him play,” Coach Bowers stated. “He was against the best of the best and aggressive while hitting the ball well. Love to see him succeed, knowing how much work he puts into it.”

Eli Willis & Hudson Pierri finished third in their respective brackets.

Greenville’s first doubles team of Avery Yount and Drew Beisner finished third in a heavy competition bracket, and the Wave’s second doubles team also finished second in their bracket.
