GREENVILLE – The Green Wave boys soccer program, under the direction of second-year head coach Brad Feldner, and assistant coach Clint Wright held its first soccer tournament with 14 teams competing and over 250 players for the weekend event.
“We decided at the end of October, as a fundraiser for the boys’ varsity team, coordinated with Darke County Soccer Association to do our sanctioning to be able to host the tournament,” Feldner said.
Teams from as far away as Van Buren and a team south of Hamilton, Ohio, attended the boys’ soccer tournament.
“The varsity boys have volunteered different time slots to come out and help us, whether it be field manager, helping with the speed kick competition, concessions, or selling tickets,” Feldner stated. “The Darke County Soccer Association is doing the concession stand.”
A favorite of the competing soccer players was the speed tent with a radar camera, where players could purchase tickets to see who could kick a soccer ball the hardest.
“The kids really seem to like that,” Feldner noted.
Coach Feldner was pleased with the first soccer tournament and plans to make it an annual event.
“Thanks to my boys on the team, the parents who brought them here and helped out,” said Feldner. “Assistant Coach Clint Wright has been helping me get things going. Thanks to Aaron Shaffer, our athletic director, and the school for permitting us to use the fields to host this, and the Darke County Soccer Association for their support, and those volunteering behind the scenes to put this all together.”
