GREENVILLE – The Union City Browns Backers presented a check for $250 to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 57 for the purchase of 12×18 American Flags with 31” poles for ‘The Field of Flags’ to be used at cemeteries around Darke County.
“This is a check for $250 to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter here in Darke County to purchase American flags for the Field of Flags,” said Union City Browns Backers President Scott Stahl. “We are proud of what we do to support the Cleveland Browns and our local community.”
DAV’s Field of Flags empowers communities to set up fields of American flags, all to honor local veterans and raise critical funds to support our ill and injured heroes.
Each flag in the Field of Flags honors a different hero. Behind each flag is a unique story – a story about courage and freedom. A story about sacrifice. A story worth honoring.
Funds raised through Field of Flags support DAV’s mission of keeping our promise to veterans, their families, and survivors. Just as America’s service members fought for us, DAV fights for them. DAV assists veterans by helping them gain access to the medical, financial, and educational benefits they’ve earned, along with connecting them to meaningful employment opportunities. All services are provided free of charge.
“These flags will replace flags that are worn out,” said DAV Chapter 57 Commander Robert Foster. “We are going to put these flags in the cemeteries over the next few years.”
“I appreciate the Browns Backers from Union City for donating to our flags for the cemeteries,” said DAV Adjutant Don Dietrich.
The Browns Backers were formed in the 80s, and the Union City Browns Backers were formed in 1987, the 27th of all clubs formed.
“We were granted a club, we are the 27th club of all the clubs,” said Stahl. “There are now at least one club in every state in the United States and 14 different countries.”
